WE PROVIDE ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING CAPTAINS, OWNERS AND CREW REQUIRE

Operating in the Balearics since 1850, Estela is a leader in innovation, creativity and professionalism in the yacht industry. We build relationships with people, we provide information and inspiration, and give guidance and support to captains and crew, owners and guests.

Just one example of how we work is our annual Superyacht Handbook, ‘The Y’, an indispensable resource for yacht cruising the Mediterranean and beyond. Not only does 'The Y' provide important information for captains, but it suggests itineraries and places of interest that are out of the ordinary.

In addition to a busy yacht show schedule, each year we host at least four social events that have become must-attend gatherings for yachties in Mallorca, such as our Superyacht Poker Tournaments and the End of Season Party.

With offices in Palma, Barcelona, Cuba and Panama, and a partner network spanning the globe, we service all needs for a wide range of private and commercial clients in the maritime world.

IN PALMA DE MALLORCA, THERE’S ALWAYS A FIESTA!

San Sebastiá 2019 No sooner has Spain finished its Three Kings celebrations for Epiphany and the next major event in Mallorca is underway. A week-long festival to honour Palma’s patron saint, San Sebastiá, features music, arts and sports events each day. However, the highlight of these festivities is on Saturday 19th January. ‘Correfoc’ is a feast of fire and drumming designed to scare away the demons and celebrate the eradication of the swine plague in 1523, followed by drink, food and music aplenty. ‘Correfoc’ means ‘fire run’, with hundreds of locals dressed as torch-bearing ‘Dimonis’ or devils, running through flames and fireworks to the incessant sound of drums. This is where health and safety go AWOL, but it makes for an exciting spectacle on a dark winter’s night. There are multiple sound stages positioned around the city, with a number of different style music bands entertaining crowds cooking on wood-fired barbecues in the streets. The Correfoc showdown takes place at the top of Parc de Sa Feixina at 18:30hrs. For the full programme of what’s on around Palma this week, click here. https://participacio.palma.cat/portal/PALMA/participacio/RecursosWeb/DOCUMENTOS/1/0_122610_1.pdf

Antigua Charter Yacht Meeting

Almost the same age as our yacht agency in Palma, the Antigua Charter Yacht Meeting was the event’s 57th year. The show’s six-day programme was filled with viewings and trial mini-charters of more than 80 yachts, interlaced with social events, presentations, meetings and crew competitions. As a show without exhibition stands or sightseeing members of the public, it is particularly good for professional networking and viewing some of the finest yachts on the charter market. Luckily, there was also time for some private tours, so we invite you to join us on video tours of M/Y Sherakhan and M/Y Siren. We would like to thank their respective crew for taking the time to show us around and permitting us to film.

Estela Shipping at METS, Amsterdam, November 13-15

Last week we attended METS, the Marine Equipment Trade Show, in Amsterdam. METS is the world’s largest show of its kind, boasting 1,500 exhibitors from around the world, showcasing the latest technologies and innovations for the marine sector. From new diesel outboards and drone-defeat systems to cutting edge interiors and fittings, there was plenty to see for captains, engineers and boat-building clients large or small.   Our visit was a first for Estela Shipping, keeping an open mind as to what, or who, we would find there. A pleasant surprise was the large number of clients we encountered on our travels, including several captains checking up on the latest products and services.   We distributed over 100 copies of ‘The Y’ Yachting Handbook to exhibitors and met with a number of potential partners for next year’s edition. The show also featured a number of new exhibitors that were looking for representation in our region, which may become fruitful relationships in the future.   We’ll be back at METS next year, but for a closer look at our first visit, check out the video, here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3T4kB7AJWwk

Superyacht Poker Tournament

Estela’s third Superyachts Poker Tournament at Palma Casino was another fun night of Texas Hold ‘Em, with some 40 entrants playing hard until late into the night, for some €2000 in prize money. The winner walked off with over €1000, while another beneficiary was the humanitarian charity, Yacht Aid Global. 15% of the total prize fund was again donated to this highly effective organisation, though the proceeds were on this occasion re-directed to the local cause of Mallorcan skipper Xisco Prieto, hospitalised in an unprovoked attack in San Remo. Xisco’s family are raising funds for a medical flight home, as his insurance won’t cover the cost of his repatriation. Our thanks go to Capt Tim Forderer of Yacht Aid Global, who promptly offered to donate all charitable proceeds towards Xisco’s repatriation. If you would like to help Xisco’s family bring him home, you can donate via this link. As we go to press, the total raised is still €2,000 short of their €25,000 goal, so any donation will be hugely appreciated. If you would like to help Yacht Aid Global and support its humanitarian initiatives around the globe, you can do so via this link. Thanks also go to our sponsors for […]
