WE PROVIDE ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING CAPTAINS, OWNERS AND CREW REQUIRE

Operating in the Balearics since 1850, Estela is a leader in innovation, creativity and professionalism in the yacht industry. We build relationships with people, we provide information and inspiration, and give guidance and support to captains and crew, owners and guests.

Just one example of how we work is our annual Superyacht Handbook, ‘The Y’, an indispensable resource for yacht cruising the Mediterranean and beyond. Not only does 'The Y' provide important information for captains, but it suggests itineraries and places of interest that are out of the ordinary.

In addition to a busy yacht show schedule, each year we host at least four social events that have become must-attend gatherings for yachties in Mallorca, such as our Superyacht Poker Tournaments and the End of Season Party.

With offices in Palma, Barcelona, Cuba and Panama, and a partner network spanning the globe, we service all needs for a wide range of private and commercial clients in the maritime world.

ESTELA at Antigua Charter Yacht Show

The Antigua Charter Yacht Show is back to full strength in 2023, for the first time since COVID, with a top line array of yachts on display.  ESTELA’s own Francesco Gennai is there, with a video report on Day One of the show here, featuring a complete walk-through of the newly refitted, 88-metre SY Maltese Falcon.  Antigua Yacht Club Marina rebuilds Following the devastating fire that swept through the Antigua Yacht Club Marina complex in October after a lightning strike, the marina itself remains fully operational, while reconstruction plans are at an advanced stage.  Reconstruction plans will be revealed imminently, with an environmentally friendly and sustainable approach as it upgrades its permanent structure. In the meantime, all berths and moorings have access to fuel, water, and shore power, with 24-hour security provided on the docks and throughout the resort. Facilities such as the on-site spa, shops, restaurants, and wifi remain available. For anything else during your visit to Antigua and Barbuda, our friends at Anchor Concierge remain on hand, of course.

Bonne journée de Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving to our American friends! An extra reason to celebrate is that today finally sees the long-awaited global cinema release of the new blockbuster movie, Napoleon. History buffs will know that America may have turned out quite differently had Napoleon Bonaparte not sold Louisiana to the United States early in the 19th century. (insert your own cheese and wine joke here.) Napoleon acquired Louisiana from Spain in 1800 as part of a plan to re-establish a French colonial empire in North America. However, his European wars left him without the resources to develop the territory, so he sold it to the USA in 1803, for $15 million. Imagine a USA filled with statues of Napoleon, tricolore flags on the porch, and singing La Marseillaise! Perhaps the gift of the Statue of Liberty some eighty years later was a crafty way for the French to leave an unmistakable, indelible mark on their lost empire? Had the Emperor managed to colonise the whole of America, you may well be enjoying Chicken Marengo today, or even Turkey Marengo? Chicken what? In June 1800, Napoleon’s troops triumphed after a long battle with Austrian forces near Marengo in northern Italy. He was hungry and […]

Don’t drop it like it’s hot!

A salutary tale reached us during a recent show, about a yacht falling foul of the authorities in Menorca this season. The captain of a 50-metre motor yacht had consulted with an agent before dropping anchor in the bay of Mahón in September, though the chosen agent was not one of only two licenced ‘consignatarios’ in Menorca. According to the captain, the restricted area was not marked on the chart. Having dropped the anchor in a restricted area without authorisation resulted in a €60,000 fine by the port authority. Yes, SIXTY THOUSAND euros, payable on pain of arrest, preventing the boat from departing.  Here at ESTELA, in Palma, we are regularly consulted about anchoring restrictions, particularly in Palma Bay, in front of the cathedral. As licenced consignees in Mallorca, we are able to obtain anchoring permits for this restricted area, or we will assist captains with anchoring in unrestricted waters. The costly lesson here is to always use licenced agents, wherever possible. Even in Palma, there are fewer of us than you think. Captains, officers, we want to hear from you!How do you prevent navigational breaches such as this from happening? Are restricted zones always marked on charts, or does this vary from place to place? […]

Costa Rica visits Palma de Mallorca

During the week of October 16th-20th, a delegation from Costa Rica visited Palma de Mallorca to see first hand some of Europe’s state of the art facilities and services for superyachts. The delegation consisted of Andres Pacheco, owner of Marina Bahia Golfito, Pedro Abdalla and Maikol Barrantes, respectively director and dockmaster of Marina Bahia Golfito, and Allan Lucas of ESTELA Shipping Costa Rica. Hosted by ESTELA Shipping in Palma de Mallorca and in Barcelona, the delegation visited dockyards, maritime institutions, marinas, and a number of companies working with superyachts in the Balearics and Spain’s mainland.   At the conclusion of their visit, the delegation shared some of their impressions and takeaways to be utilised in developing Costa Rica’s superyacht services: During a guided tour of STP in Palma, the operating model was an eye-opener, as an open platform for repair and maintenance, where service providers compete and are contracted directly by yacht managers. The efficiency, practicality and flexibility this business model provides were popular with captains and managers alike. Visiting Moll Vell Marina and the promotional agency, Balearic Yacht Destination, they heard about how governmental bodies and commercial enterprise can collaborate to address the needs of the yachting market and develop […]

Thank you for your support!

We would like to thank all the companies for the support and sponsorship of the End of Season Party. It was another unforgettable evening continuing into the wee hours of the morning. It was wonderful to meet many of your personally and connect names to faces, even if in disguise! The photos are out and can be seen in the link below, and are downloadable in high-res images for your own social media so please feel free to share! We will send the video along soon! If you would like to promote your brand, and a good cause, our next event is a charity event with all proceeds going to the charity Yachting Gives Back, that fights against hunger and poverty in Mallorca. It is a winter movie night in a lovely cinema in Palma, with food and drinks included and the screening of Napoleon to link in perfectly with the theme of the guide. Last year we had over 250 yachties in attendance, and it is a great event to promote your business to a captive audience. Please do let us know if you would like more information and we will happily pass on the details. Similarly, for our […]
