‘Veni Vidi Vinum’ Our annual party held during the Palma Superyacht Show last week was the best yet! Held at Varadero restaurant, next to STP in Palma, we were delighted to greet more than 200 yacht captains, crew, managers, suppliers, designers, partners and sponsors on the night. In keeping with the theme of this year’s ‘The Y Yachting Itineraries’, launched at the show, the party theme was Ancient Romans & Deities. More guests might have thrown on a makeshift toga, but the atmosphere was fantastic, with live music from Italian jazz group, ‘Animamina’ and a DJ set until late into the evening. Thanks for our sponsors for making it possible. They were Puerto de Melilla, The Crew Network, Termopetroli, Coral Marine, Agents by Catalano, PortoMirabello, Antigua Yacht Club Marina, Argentario Yacht Services, Alcaidesa Marina and AYSS. Check out the photo gallery here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/bHTYQYq94UGkttvi7 We hope to see you next year!
Palma Boat Show, Apr 27 – May 1 Our stand will be unmissable, as we have combined with our partners, Termopetroli, to double it in size, in the same location, near the pontoon bridge in the superyacht section. Our theme is inspired by this year’s ‘The Y Yachting Itineraries’ 2019/20, which centres on Italy and the Roman Empire. A key element of the book is the history of the first ever superyachts, the Nemi Ships. These ‘party boats’ were recovered from Lake Nemi a century ago, and we explore the fascinating story of the owner who commissioned them two thousand years ago, Emperor Caligula. To find out more about this year’s guide and to among the first to obtain a copy, come to our book launch presentation on the opening day of the show, around 11:00h. We are honoured to be joined on Day Three of the show by the preeminent expert on the Nemi Ships, author and historian, Professor Giuliano Di Benedetti. Prof Di Benedetti will be giving a talk on his life’s mission to uncover the truth about these mysterious grand barges. We will also be hosting Carlo Cestra Technologies, showcasing their state-of-the-art 3D […]
Much has been written since the announcement last June of the EU’s enforcement of an existing regulation on US-built commercial yachts, or US-made parts on US-flagged yachts. , in response to the US’s imposition of tariffs on EU commodities. (See regulation (EU) 2018/724 amended 28/6/2018 via (EU) 2018/886) The regulation is complex and has deterred some boats from coming across for the forthcoming Mediterranean season, though it’s fair to say that its true impact has been overstated. The number of vessels affected is small, but here are the key facts of which you should be aware: Privately-registered and privately-used yachts, adhering to 18-month ‘Temporary Admission’ (or ‘Temporary Importation’) rules, are entirely unaffected. Import duty of 25%, plus VAT, now applies to pre-owned yachts of 12 metres or more manufactured and registered in the USA and sold/imported into the EU. US-made parts on non-US built but US-flagged yachts are also subject to import duty and VAT. US-built and -flagged yachts of less than 12 metres are subject to a 1.7% customs duty. Yachts imported into France as commercial yachts under France’s ‘Commercial Exemption’ (FCE) regulation, or through other countries, eg Malta, and hold an Import Customs […]
2019 was the first time Estela Shipping attended Boot Düsseldorf. We were blown away by the sheer scale of the show and the calibre of exhibitors we met. We met lots of familiar faces and made many new connections, some of whom we’re looking forward to working with this year. This walkabout is a small taster of the exhibits on offer; we’ll be back next year!
San Sebastiá 2019 No sooner has Spain finished its Three Kings celebrations for Epiphany and the next major event in Mallorca is underway. A week-long festival to honour Palma’s patron saint, San Sebastiá, features music, arts and sports events each day. However, the highlight of these festivities is on Saturday 19th January. ‘Correfoc’ is a feast of fire and drumming designed to scare away the demons and celebrate the eradication of the swine plague in 1523, followed by drink, food and music aplenty. ‘Correfoc’ means ‘fire run’, with hundreds of locals dressed as torch-bearing ‘Dimonis’ or devils, running through flames and fireworks to the incessant sound of drums. This is where health and safety go AWOL, but it makes for an exciting spectacle on a dark winter’s night. There are multiple sound stages positioned around the city, with a number of different style music bands entertaining crowds cooking on wood-fired barbecues in the streets. The Correfoc showdown takes place at the top of Parc de Sa Feixina at 18:30hrs. Estela’s third Superyachts Poker Tournament at Palma Casino was another fun night of Texas Hold ‘Em, with some 40 entrants playing hard until late into the night, for some €2000 in prize money. The winner walked off with over €1000, while another beneficiary was the humanitarian charity, Yacht Aid Global. 15% of the total prize fund was again donated to this highly effective organisation, though the proceeds were on this occasion re-directed to the local cause of Mallorcan skipper Xisco Prieto, hospitalised in an unprovoked attack in San Remo. Xisco’s family are raising funds for a medical flight home, as his insurance won’t cover the cost of his repatriation. Our thanks go to Capt Tim Forderer of Yacht Aid Global, who promptly offered to donate all charitable proceeds towards Xisco’s repatriation. If you would like to help Xisco’s family bring him home, you can donate via this link. As we go to press, the total raised is still €2,000 short of their €25,000 goal, so any donation will be hugely appreciated. If you would like to help Yacht Aid Global and support its humanitarian initiatives around the globe, you can do so via this link. Thanks also go to our sponsors for […]

Mallorca’s pioneering superyacht agency is thriving and growing, as Palma becomes an ever larger hub for yachts based in, or visiting, the western Mediterranean. In response to ever-increasing demand, Estela Superyacht Agency is now pleased to announce the opening of its new office in STP, Palma’s state-of-the-art service, refit and repair facility. From September, the STP office will be staffed from 09:00-12:00hrs, or by appointment. Estela, Palma’s first superyacht agency, provides concierge services and technical support to superyachts visiting the Balearic Islands, including provisioning, berth booking, fuelling, flowers, recruitment, car hire and transfers, events and entertainment, itineraries, engineering services and anything else that superyacht captains and guests require in destination. “The STP office is in operation, but will be formally inaugurated at our annual End of Season party later this year”, says senior yacht consultant, Francesco Gennai. “The new base is a boon for captains and crew needing to complete immigration or customs procedures, or requiring support with technical and engineering services, including fuelling, on-board water and sanitary analyses.” The office makes Estela the only consignatory agent in STP, being on-hand to complete port and police formalities, such as transit visas, on behalf of vessels and crew. “Time is often […]
Palma, July 23rd, 2018 Last week saw the arrival and beginning of the assembly works of the new 1000 ton travelift that STP Shipyard Palma will commission at the end of summer 2018.
