THE Y / YACHTING HANDBOOK – YACHT CHAPTER PAG. 174 If we have a look to the actual situation in our industry and all the injuries and accidents, unfortunately on many occasions fatal, we can see where the Achilles heel is. If you are in the sea, you must be aware that possible emergencies may arise. There are a few questions that you must know the right answer to in order to set a basic level of safety on board your yacht: Every emergency is a situation in which you have no control over, and eventually it can stem from a lack of preparation. In fact fear of failure, anxiety and confusion can generate chaos and paralyze the victim’s rescue procedures. The requirements that they need are the following. Crew list with nationality and passport details Guest list with nationality and passports, name surname all details, not only crew members but guests on board. I understand that some people want to stay anonymous, but we must be able to identify who is on board and who is in the country. How did it come about? The thinking behind the card was a very simple one. Here at Estela we are no different from anyone else and we get great joy out of saving a little bit here and there. I suppose the card could be compared to the student discount card that many of you may have been lucky enough to make great use out of during your academic years. How do you obtain this card? The card is exclusive to Estela’s clients and can be obtained by either getting in contact with us or coming to introduce yourself personally in our office, where we would be more than happy to explain the card further and share our recommendations. Who is it for? The card is of great benefit to all crew wanting to break the everyday routine of living and working aboard a yacht. Whether you are in Palma for a short stay or are based here for a longer period of time, the card will be of great benefit to you. What benefits does it bring? Due to our ongoing collaborations with a lot of our partners on the island, we managed to negotiate and agree on certain […]
San Sebastián On the 20th January Palma celebrates its Patron, Saint Sebastian, in the late 1500 when the plague was rife on the island. The city was conquered by Carlos I and suddenly the island was cured of the plague they say this is because a new relic was found in Palma. A fragment of Saint Sebastian arm bone which had come in from Rhodes was spirited to Palma by a priest fleeing the advance of the Turks and who happened to pass through Mallorca. For some reason unable to continue on his journey the bone stayed in Palma and thus was seen as divine intervention that saved the city. The festivities start a week before as the Sant Antoni festival is also during this time where demonic devils roam the street whilst surrounded by parades with fire breathing dragons. Defiantly not one to miss. The eve of Saint Sebastian there will be various stages erected all through Palma where live bands will perform all genres of music from traditional folk music to rock, there are BBQs set up where you can bring meat and eat to your hearts content. Enjoy the music by dancing away into the […]

The Triton is a monthly newspaper for the people who earn their living working on luxury yachts. It was first published in April 2004. The main aim of Triton magazine is to be a voice for the community of people who earn their living working on yachts. To give captains and crews the information they need to help them run their boats and manage their careers. Based in Fort Lauderdale, it remains one of the only independent yachting publications in the industry today. Triton is a Greek sea god, the son of Poseidon and Amphitrite. He is often seen as a merman: a man from the waist up, a fish from the waist down. Triton had the power to calm or rile the seas by blowing his conch horn. We liked that as a metaphor for what the best newspapers can do: to deliver news that will dispel rumors and encourage discussion on the issues and trends yacht captains and crew face. The Tritons only distributer in the Balearics is in Palma at the Estela Shipping Offices on Av. Gabriel Roca, nº 37 local C, 07014 Palma de Mallorca.
